Promoter of the old craft of weaving

Rasa Aleksandravičienė

Rasa was introduced to old traditional folk crafts as a child, she was interested in and inclined towards handicrafts, and loved to create various pictures from straw. While still at school, she met a wicker weaver, Ona Būrienė, whose wickerwork fascinated Rasa and encouraged her to continue her interest in crafts.

01Achievements

Rasa Aleksandravičienė, who works as the head of the non-formal education group at Daugai Vladas Mironas Gymnasium, is also actively involved in community activities, and presents her products at exhibitions and festivals. Rasa has been a member of the Lithuanian Folk Artists' Union since 1994, and in 2010 her products were awarded the Lithuanian National Heritage Products Certificate.

She has been presenting her original products at exhibitions for two decades, some of which we will mention:

  • 3rd Republican Exhibition-Competition of Applied Folk Art "Iš Džiugo sakmių", 2018,
  • Dzūkija Region Folk Art Exhibition-Competition "Aukso vainiko link", 2020, 3rd place diploma.

Rasa deepened her knowledge of the craft of wicker weaving and gained experience as a wicker weaver at Kaunas Higher School of Technology. As Rasa herself says: "Many people could do wickerwork, although it is a very responsible job that requires a lot of patience, concentration and diligence, but when you get the result, you feel the joy of creative work". Rasa, who is talented, shares her wealth of knowledge and experience with interested local and international visitors. She conducts educational sessions for both children and adults who want to learn the meticulous, interesting craft of wicker weaving, which is full of tradition and nationality.
