The art open-air workshop "Laisvas potėpis" started on 10 June, 10:00 a.m., June 10, 10:00 a.m., in the homestead of the artist Antanas Žmuidzinavičius Museum (Balkūnų village, Miroslavo sen.). This is one of the activities of the amateur theatre festival-contest "Kaimo liktarna" (Village lantern), which is dedicated to the theatre critic Vytautas Maknis.
The opening speech was given by Laimutė Zavistauskienė, a member of the Alytus District Regional Culture Council, Chief Specialist of the Education, Culture and Sports Department of the Alytus District Municipal Administration, Eglė Sereičikienė, Director of the Alytus District Municipal Culture Centre, and Auksė Sapežinskienė, Director of the Alytus District School of Art and Sports, who also took part in the workshop.
Until 2 p.m., students of the Art Department of the Alytus District School of Art and Sports - Viktorija Kosčejevaitė, Lukas Urbanavičius, Lauryna Cickevičiūtė, Mėta Raudonytė, Sintija Palubinskaitė, Ema Sabaliauskaitė, Lukrecija Urbonaitė, Augustė Sukarevičiūtė, Milda Bulvinaitė, Linas Stasionis, joined by Gabrielė Daminavičiūtė from the village of Balkūnai, painted landscapes of the farmstead. The young participants were assisted by the leader of the workshop, expert art teacher Arūnas Vaitkus. The works will be exhibited in the museum's homestead, and on 17 June they will be presented at the theatre festival-contest "Village lantern".
The project - amateur theatre festival-contest "Kaimo liktarna", dedicated to the theatre critic Vytautas Maknis, is implemented by the Alytus District Municipality Culture Centre, financed by the Lithuanian Council for Culture and Alytus District Municipality.
On 17 June at 12 noon, an amateur theatre festival and competition " Kaimo liktarna" will take place. The performances will be presented by the amateur theatre 'Sodžius' of the ethnographic farmstead of Pranas Dzūkas, the amateur theatre 'Cik tep sau' of the Rudamina Association's 'Leisure Employment Club', and the theatre 'Dilgynė' of the Varėnos Cultural Centre in Merkinė. The best amateur theatre will be awarded the prize named after Vytautas Maknis by the Alytus District Municipal Council, while the best actor and actress will receive diplomas and prizes.
The project is a great opportunity to learn more about the artist Žmuidzinavičius, to visit the museum, to take part in a guided tour, and to remember the theatre scholar V. Maknis, who was born here, and his work. The Museum's homestead was the site of a primary school, plays and a carriage theatre. Later, amateur theatre festivals were organised.
