Description

On 23 April, a traditional spring greenery and farmers' festival - Jurginės "Jurgi, Jurgeli" - will be held in Alovė. St. Mass will be held at 12:00 in the Church of St. Trinity Church of Alovė. After the church service, at 13:00, The opening of the Jurginės festival in the square of the Alovė school will occur. In the tradition of St George's Day, bread will be carried around the fields in the belief that the bread ceremony will help the farmer to communicate better with the land that feeds him, and according to the old custom, he will also take the animals out to the fields. The programme will be attended by the art groups of the Alytus District Municipal Culture Centre, Alovė branch, students of the Alovė section of the Daugai Vladas Mironas Gymnasium, the village band 'Kaimynai' from the Kumečiai community, the folk music band "Sodžiaus aidas" from Venciūnai, and the folk music group "Sodžius" from the Marijampolė district. All those who come to visit the festival will be invited to the Jurginės table, and will be treated to a traditional "pauciene" made of a hundred eggs, baked right on the spot.
